Community Dining
Join us at Donoghue’s Open Door at FeedNC where everyone is able to choose one meal per day at no charge Monday - Friday 9am-2pm for our breakfast or lunch service (dine-in only). We encourage those coming in to dine with us to join their neighbors at one of our community tables to make new connections & friends! We do also have private tables for those who are little more shy or are just enjoying a quick business lunch.
What's The Purpose of Community Dining?
We believe that everyone deserves nutritious food and good people in their lives. This is our way of breaking down barriers and encouraging the community to come together to enjoy a good meal and their neighbor's company. At FeedNC and Donoghue’s Open Door, we believe every person has something to give and receive, including skills, talents, and compassion. Coming together as a community builds valuable social capital. Additionally, Donoghues Open Door provides a space for our Culinary Workforce students to practice their skills before heading out into the workforce!
So What's the Catch... How Is It Free?
Well...it's not technically free - even though the meals are free of charge, we rely on donations at FeedNC to make all of our programs possible, including Donoghue's Open Door. So when caring community members contribute to the mission, it helps us support all of our programs including our innovative community dining concept!
But really… How Can I Pay?
We never accept payment for food or tips at Donoghue's Open Door. We want to ensure that all who need a hot meal can have access to this experience without barriers. If after your meal you feel called to contribute to our mission, you can do so at our Donation Station in the Lobby or by clicking the button below!
Amber Parker
Community Dining Manager
For Amber, food has always been personal — a way to connect, to comfort, and to show care. A proud Lake Norman native, she brings more than 15 years of experience in the restaurant industry and has worn many hats: from sauté chef and line cook to restaurant and bar manager, and even personal chef. Each chapter deepened her love for hospitality and taught her that a truly meaningful meal is about the people gathered around it, not just the ingredients that go into it.
When Amber joined FeedNC in July 2024, she found the perfect place to combine her passion for food with her heart for community. She brings creativity, warmth, and a sense of purpose to every meal, turning rescued and donated ingredients into dishes that make people feel at home.
Her goal is simple — to make sure every person who walks through the dining room doors feels valued and welcome.
Outside of work, Amber loves spending time outdoors, adventuring with her partner, or relaxing at home with her pack of animals — especially Piper, her Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, who knows she runs the household. To Amber, food is love made visible — and every plate served is a chance to share that love with others.
