Veterans Face Higher Rates of Food Insecurity — We're Working to Change That.

🍎 Impact on Diet and Nutrition

  • Food insecurity affects many veteran households across the United States. Veterans experiencing food insecurity are more likely to consume diets low in fruits and vegetables and high in fast food and sugary beverages. This dietary pattern increases the risk of chronic illnesses such as obesity, diabetes, hypertension, and cardiovascular disease (Food Research & Action Center, 2023).

FeedNC’s Veterans Farmers Market is our response to this pressing need. We offer support to veteran households by providing access to fresh, nutritious produce twice a month at no cost. This initiative seeks to promote healthier eating habits, alleviate food insecurity, and create a space where veterans can receive assistance with dignity while building connections within their community.
